The book i have just started reading is the sequel to The Magicians.  This sequel is called The Magician King.  It also takes place in Fillory to start, and it still has Quentin as one of the four rulers of Fillory.  They all live in a palace called castle Whitespire.  The four rulers are: Quentin, Eliot, Janet, and the newer group member is named Julia.  Julia was in the prequel, as one of Quentin's friends in the beggining.  But she also was accepted to take the entry exam into Brakebills academy.  But unlike Quentin, she didn't get in.  They tried to erase her memory of taking the exam, but she never actually forgot about it.  So she ended up teaching magic to herself, since she knew it did exist.  But all her spells were very easy, as she got them all off the internet and they were probably begginer spells anyways.

But they were all rulers of Fillory now, and the story starts off with them hunting the Seeing Hare, which could tell the future of anyone who caught it.  But, as a magical creature, it hasn't been caught in a long time.  So as they are hunting the hare, they stumble into a clearing.  But there is obviously something wrong.  One of the Wathcerwoman's clock trees has grown to a tremendous size (the watcherwoman was a creature in one of Christopher Plover's Fillory books, and she really annoyed Martin Chatwin by planting these things called Clock Trees, which really did nothing but annoy martin and freak everybody out).  Here is a quote of how Quentin describes the tree.  "He had to lean back to see its crown.  It must have been a hundred feet tal, and it was massively thick, at least fifteen yards around at its base.  Its clock was stupendous.  The face was taller then Quentin was.  The trunk erupted out of the green grass and burst into a mass of wiggly branches, like a kraken sculpted in wood.  And it was moving.  Its black, nearly leafless limbs writhed and thrashed against the gray sky."

The Magicians by Lev Grossman is a fantasy book that involves magic and a world different from Earth.  The main character is Quentin, and he is a very smart student.  He excels at math of any kind, and he loves Latin exams and speaking contests, and has many friends that are smart like he is.  But he believes his life is boring because ever since he has read Christopher Plover's Fillory book series, he wants to learn magic, and his life in Brooklyn can't give him that.  But one day, when a paper flies from his hands, he goes through a forest of plants and old vines to find himself in Upstate New York at the magical academy called Brakebills.  After being accepted into the school after a very strange entry exam, he finally learns that magic is real, and very deadly.

After Quentin has spent a number of years at Brakebills learning about magic and almost all of its properties, he finally graduates with his new friends and they all live in the same apartment somewhere in New York.  They realize, however, that there is more to life than what they see.  When a lost friend comes and finds them, they bring with them a world full of possibility and danger.  Fillory is real, and it is not a world to be underestimated. Follow Quentin, his friends, and all his adventures in Lev Grossman's The Magicians, which is a young adult rated book.
